Spanish American War

I certainly believe that The United States was not justified to declare war against Spain during the 1800's. United States did not have a good enought reason to declare war on Spain. In fact, there were many reasons why United States declaring war on Spain was wrong and not just .
One out of many reasons that I think would be most unjust would be U.S using an excuse to declare war on Cuba. The United States sent troops and a battleship called U.S.S maine to protect U.S businessmen in Cuba. This battleship combusted and caused over 260 casualties. At this time, The United States had not enought evidence to declare war against Spain because Spanish officials investigated and found out that i was an internal combustion. This in fact was true, which meant the combustion was only an accident. This fact was proven 78 years too late.
The media in the United States made Spain look like a threatening country and made it seem like The United States needed revenge. Newspaper articles used yellow journalism and bias statements to get mroe viewers but this would just make citizens want to take action against the Spanish. The media played a big roll in this conflict between The United States and Spain. They made declaring war on Spain seem like the only justifying thing left to do which indeed was not.
Another major reason United States really declared war against Spain was because of Government interest in Cuba's economic potential. At that time Cuba had a great amount of sugar was produced. In my opinion I think that we only declared war on Spain because we wanted an alliance with Cuba to get to the sugar . We ended "helping" Cuba after the war by setting up military forces in Cuba because of their country was a mess . Another small reason why citizens thought it was a right and justifying thing to do at that time was because of the war Cuba and Spain was fighting. Many people thought it was right to help Cuba fight for freedom just like how America fought a Revolutionary war with England .
In conclusion, even though there were some reasons why declaring war on Spain was right . The major reasons why we declared war on Spain was mostly unjust. Declaring war on a country because of an mistaken accusation is wrong. Also being interested in a countries ability to grow a product America is interested in and declaring war is very unjust.

2 China Schools Said to Be Tied to Online Attacks

A New York Times article was stated that A series of online attacks on Google and dozens of other American corporations have been traced to computers at two educational institutions in China. Two of these Colleges that were traced down to the online attacks were Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School. Google’s decision to step forward and challenge China over the intrusions has created a highly sensitive issue for the United States government. I think that China is doing a wrong thing by using Internet take hack into U.S governments files and programs. China declined Google in their country because there was too much information and knowledge about things the citizens shouldn't know but now they are hacking into our internet to get information.
This is absurd and states true facts about China. Even though this article might be written by a bias, it is still true. Shockingly, I am disappointing in my family's country even though I was born and raised in The United States.

Controversial Diabetes Drug Harms Heart, U.S. Concludes

This article was in the New York Times. The article is about US citizens taking diabetes medicine and the effects of this movement. Hundreds of people in the United States take a diabetes pill called Avandia, a controversial medicine that causes heart failure and heart attacks itself.
Thinking back to our main topic about food, and the movie documentary "Food Inc". I think that the government should have shut down the meat industries instead of marketing these pills. The reports, obtained by The New York Times, say that if every diabetic now taking Avandia were instead given a similar pill named Actos, about 500 heart attacks and 300 cases of heart failure would be averted every month because Avandia can hurt the heart. So it really isn't the governments fault but if the government wants to shut down these pills because of the causes they should be able to shut down meat industries that causes those heart diseases. This article was not opinionated one , it was all stated clear facts about the drug causes. All though, I think that the author is trying to persuade the readers not to take those pills but also inform everyone about the drug harms.

Reflection on Food Inc.

A couple weeks ago, our class watched a documentary on food industries. The documentary was called "Food, Inc". I was disgusted and terrified at the same time after viewing the documentary. Food that we eat daily is being genetically made. Do you know where your food actually comes from or how it's even made?
Food inc. the documentary had many examples of hazardous fast food and how industries take over and control what we eat. For example, Tyson Chicken is unhealthy, and the workers are treated horribly. They are forced to do what Tyson chicken tells them to do because of there debt they owe. Most Tyson Chicken farmers refused to let the interviewers in the coop. There was this one farmer who couldn't take it anymore. Even if she got sued she told the story about chemicals making chickens grow faster than their body could handle. It was also very sickening to see the coop where the animals live in, they were all squished up and all dirtied walking on there own fesses.
After viewing several interviews from different companies, i have to say the statistics were actually shockingly true. We have no control over what we eat. Americans hav4e a time where they eventually crave for the fast food and they need to have it. The government give subsides to the meat industries so the prices of the fast food would be affordable.
Fast food restaurants is one of the things that provide the meat for the consumers, but the meat is unhealthy and might even have echoli. In many cases people ate thhe echoli and the effects of the bacteria was fatal. The corn that was fed to the cows gave them more bacteria then they already had but the corn would help the cows grow faster. These industries are not taking care of animals or respecting them. The industries do not care about diseases that the meat produces . Industries like these will do anything for more money even if they are making the meat more unsafe.
Fast food meat can kill you from bacteria but one of the biggest murderers in The United States is fast food itself. These industries sell their meat for cheap and the fast food restaurants will buy more. This happens when Americans eat alot of fast food because it is so cheap. Eating more fast food will enforce theses industries even more which is a ad thing because enforcing them to make meat in a faster pace makes the meat even more healthy. But that is not the worst part f it, the worst part of is being diagnosed with diabetes. Eating lots of fast food that are oily and that have lots of calories can lead the diabetes and blood clogs. Majorities of citizens living in America eat fast food on daily or weekly basis. Eating all these fast food is harming your health and helping to industries more. I am surprised when I learned this because i never thought about it.
This video shows eyes deeper then they can really see. Since the government is not caring about our health of safety hazards we should be picky eaters and not eat these fast foods. I know that is a hypocritical statement because at the end of the day i still end up eating the meat, fast food and chicken that is being produced by mass production just like in the movie " Food Inc." But that is the statement that should happen, and we can run the industries out of business and we can probably most likely live longer. At the end of the day almost all Americans crave for the fastfood and chicken that is unhealthy. Its more then a want its our need.

Humanities Timeline Summary

This time line is about the civil rights movement. Around 1865 is when it all started. The civil war had just ended and the reconstruction period had just started. Blacks and whites were trying to integrate with each other, but the white refused and made laws that separated the two races which was called the " The Jim Crow laws ". At this time period everything was a mess, Whites felt that were me superior then all the other races. This is when the African Americans became furious and started fighting back. After years and years of fighting the government had finally passed 3 new amendments to the constitution that gave all races the same rights which were amendment 13,14,15. Even thought the government passed these laws down, whites were mad and still found ways to put blacks people down and made themselves feel better. That was when he court case in the supreme court " Plessy vs Ferguson " in 1896 happened, this court case was to enforce " Separate was not equal " But it was overturned to Separate is equal. After almost 50 years from the court case of fighting, was another court case " Brown versus Board of Education", this case was to finish the job of what Plessy vs Ferguson case couldn't but this time Brown Versus Board was not overturned and the outcome came out as " Separate was not inherently equal ". After the court case they integrated two schools , central high , and Little rock high . That was when nine teenage African American students went to little rock high. But the governor sent national guards to block the entrance so the African American students not to enter the school which broke the 14 amendment. The blacks fought back in 1963 with " The Children's March", this event was when all the African American students from all over the United States went to jail to boycott and thats when the president knew he had to do something about it. The President sent troops to bring the little rock nine to school everyday and keep them safe. That was when "The Jim Crow law " was vanished because of the civil rights act which took away all the discrimination of race employment and racial voting rights.

Humanities Civil Rights Act Timeline

General Civil Right (1865 - 1965) - The whole movement started when the civil war ended in 1865. At that time, segregation started and in 1965 that was when public facilities were integrated, and when they demolished the Jim Crow Laws, racial discrimination employments, and racial voting rights, which was called the civil rights act.
Reconstruction ( 1860's - 1880's) - This was a time period when blacks and whites were trying to integrate right after the civil war, blacks were trying to enforce the 3 new amendments that had been passed by the government on the white people.
Jim Crow Law ( 1875 - 1965 ) - Jim Crow Law was a state law in the south that separated White and African American people in the states of the south and was ended after almost a century after it was started
Amendment 13 ( 1865 ) - Amendment 13 was a law that ended slavery and made it illegal to have slaves.
Amendment 14 ( 1868 ) - This amendment was to enforce amendment 13,15. This amendment assured that no state law shall take away any rights from any person.
Amendment 15 ( 1870 ) - This amendment was the right to vote, and that can not be taken away according to race , sexuality , color or
previous condition of servitude.
Plessy versus Ferguson (1896) - Plessy Versus Ferguson was a court case in the supreme court for "Separate is not equal" but in the end it was down to 7 votes to 1 vote, the outcome of the decision was " Separate but equal " is fair.
Brown Versus Board ( 1954 ) - This was the greatest success of NAACP, National Association For Advanced Colored People; Brown versus Board was a law case which continued what Plessy Versus Ferguson failed to do which was to state "separate is not equal" , but this time it was 9 - 0 votes and the outcome was "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."
Children's march ( 1963) - This event took place in the south where African American children/students from all over the United States went to March and decide to all go to jail as a boycott protest for segregation.

Racial Differences in Education

The statistic that caught my attention was barely any African American & Latinos students graduate from high school. Some examples are 55% Latinos graduating, 51% African American
& 76% white students graduating. What I'm trying to say is that either African American & Latino students like the streets more than there education or there family is in poverty in other words have no money. It is also known that high school graduates live 7 years longer than a high school drop out & what I feel about all of this is that they're trying to say all Latino & African American are all the same like probably every one else thinks that Latino & African American are stupid or just don't like school or maybe even think that Latino & African American parents don't care about there Children's education or don't give them discipline as much as white parents. All I have to say is that were all not the same we all have are differences & a lot of us have difficulties in school. So what do you THINK about that?

Have you ever thought about the racial gap between races in education or even in life?

"Black and Latino students are 2-3 times more likely to have below basic skills in reading and math"

According to the statistic above, Black and Latinos have a higher percentage chance of having below level of reading and math skills. This absurd quotation and statistic might be true for some Black and Latino students, but it doesn't apply for all Black and Latino students. This statistic is just one of all the other stereotypes on the racial achievement gap. This quote is the same as saying Asian students are 2-3 times more likely to have above basic skills in math. Stereotypical quotes are true sometimes but in this case I would think I would be in the middle. There are many Blacks and Latinos who are smart. This statistic bring up another point, the only reason Blacks and Latino students are 2-3 times more likely to have below basic skills in math and reading is because there family are either in poverty or below poverty lines, and thats there excuse to do bad in school. In my opinion this is not a acceptable excuse for doing bad. This Black and Latino student stereotype is a very confusing one, it brings up many points and makes me think in the middle of true and false. Many Lower East Side Asian Families also live in the projects, and many families are in poverty like Black and Latinos are but they do good academically wise in comparison to other race's. In some cases the parents have a big responsibility in the education of their children. If the parent takes full responsibility of caring about their child's education then the child will most likely do better. In other cases some children are delinquents and do bad in school to get attention because they don't get any attention at all at home. My parents always care about my education and put pressure on me to do good in school and if i don't get high grades then both me and my brother know that we will have consequences of our own. According to what I have noticed, I am predicting that Black and Latinos have lots of responsibility as a parent and they don't have time to get involved with their children and their education. This statistic brings up many things that go through my mind but also makes me very confused about if the quote is either true or false.
